Sevyn Streeter: Drunken Wordz Sober Thoughtz

Miss Sevyn Streeter has been around for a long time now and personally I don’t think she gets her flowers! Yes I am shouting, because this woman is truly an R’n’B girlie that I don’t hear enough noise about.

In 2022, she dropped one of the strongest r’n’b albums to date and I’m here to be the town crier about it.

Drunken Wordz Sober Thoughtz had quite literally no skips - it opens with End Up and leads to Fall Back, which is a gritty sound and teamed with her vocals, these songs are there to set the bar which is pushed further. Nasty Girl is that one song on an r’n’b album that has the commercial value - great song and probably one of my faves from the album. This also features BIA who rides the beat with her laid back flow. We get features from Jeremih and Lucky Daye, who compliment Sevyn’s softness with a masculine fragility, which is smooth like silk - great choices for the male features as they don’t over power her.

We move onto a more sensual/sexual energy with songs like In Common and Change My mind, a reminder to us that Sevyn is grown. Teamed with Wet Dreamz and Feelz - these songs truly give us the essence of r’n’b/slow jams.

If you’re like me and you have to listen to a deluxe album, High life is such a beautiful way to end the album. A celebration of ones self and probably the album itself - the production on it is chefs kiss! So delicate yet bossy.

As I said Sevyn Streeter deserves more recognition within the r’n’b world. She has been putting out music that is very much on brand for her genre and she never sways. This album is a testament to that. A really good body of work.
