GloRilla: Glorious
If you needed a pick me up, if you need some female empowerment, if you need a new gym soundtrack - GloRilla has got you!
Glo has made such a cultural impact and I hope she realises it. Her Memphis accent and her personality really carry everything. It’s new, it’s fresh and it’s a different flavour to the female rap game, which is welcomed.
GLORIOUS is nothing but that. Every song has that powerful dirty southern bass, which encompasses the culture - makes you do that black stank face (you know what I’m talking about). She’s the queen of Crunk, completely undeniable.
I had an inkling that this album would sound exactly how it does, after the TikTok tease of TGIF - THAT SONG! While we didn’t have a true summer in the UK, when the sun was out and the temperature heated up, I was definitely outside rapping at the top of my lungs “It’s 7pm Friday. It’s 95 degrees. I ain’t got no n***a and no n***a ain’t got me!”. What a way to open a song. We hear the same girl power songs throughout the album and with features from our fave girlies - Latto on Procedure, Sexyy Red on Whatchu Kno About Me and Meg on How I Look. We love girls girls and the features have really captured this.
It was nice to hear a vulnerable side to Miss Glo - it was slightly unexpected and I hope it’s something that we continue to see. Glo’s Prayer is extremely relatable to many and while she raps about leaving men and focusing on you, it’s also okay to recognise that you love someone who may not be right for you - “love scary”. We got a gospel song too. Rain down on me is truly welcomed, especially during this time when the black entertainment industry is looking very creepy. It’s uplifting and shows a different side to her.
To wrap it up, GloRilla has produced a solid project. For a debut studio rap album, I haven’t skipped any songs and at the moment it’s platinum in my house. I can’t wait to see how her mursic develops.
