Doechii: Alligator Bites Never heal
Doechii!
The much anticipated mixtape has finally arrived from the Floridan Rapper and she did not disappoint at all. She has been creeping into the scene and Alligator Bites Never Heal has definitely made its presence known.
Singles Nissan Altima and Boom Bap, gave us all a little taste of what was to come, but I for one still didn’t know what to expect. What I can say is that it is everything and more - perhaps one could say, exceeded all expectations and absolutely restored my faith in the music scene (especially the female rappers and hip hop world).
Doechii has given us a mixtape that really highlights the old school ways of rap with a modern twist. She gives us clear, crisp, clean-cut vocals while delivering punchy rhymes and incredible storytelling. The range shown on this body of work is sublime and just downright delicious.
Not only can she rap circles around most of your faves, but she sings too - soft and warm, airy and fluffy vocals gently resting on top of big bass beats and hip hop trills. It adds a softness and truly showcases her range, and all she has to offer. We get to explore her duality in a way that captures the ears and won’t let them go. I was left wanting more.
ABNH starts off hard and fast with songs such as Stanka Pooh, Bullfrog, Boiled peanuts and we slowly start to transition to a delicate side which really shows off her femininity, by giving us Bloom, Slide and Fireflies.
Hearing her missy Elliot influences and even some Doja like adlibs on HUH! really made my day (I’d love to see these two collab someday).
All in all this mixtape has no skips and is a factory reset on music releases. This should be classed as an album as this is packaged beautifully.
